State of the Union

The Photo of the day pretty much shows how the State of the Union went, with Kamala Harris (and all the Democrats) standing and applauding, while Mike Johnson sitting, looking tense, and most of the  time shaking his negatively.  He did occasionally applaud Biden, but his hands were under  the desk, so you couldn't really tell he was applauding.

It was such a strong speech, with Biden mentioning his "predecessor" 13 times and giving the picture of what life would be like under "the predecessor" vs. under Biden.  He talked about how “my predecessor” had tried to rewrite the history of the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, how “my predecessor” had failed to care as the pandemic began to rage across the nation almost exactly four years ago, how “my predecessor” had done little to combat China and how “my predecessor” had not acted on gun violence.

Marjorie Taylor Green wore a MAGA hat (hats are not to be worn in the house) and yelled at Biden during his speech.  He handled her well.

If anybody thinks that his 81 year old brain is having difficulties, all they have to do is look at this speech.  One hour and only twice did he stumble over something.

He looked strong and capable and definitely ready to lead the country for another four years.  Remember Queen Elizabeth was still ruling at 96 when she died.  But the MAGA people don't want the democratic way of life that Biden proposes, so it all depends on how many people vote.

From Jen Psaki:

on Thursday night, many Republicans refused to stand when President Joe Biden celebrated even the most fundamental American values and accomplishments. House Speaker Mike Johnson was a particularly awkward example of this, as he grimaced in his chair through the majority of the speech. Johnson and his peers refused to stand to celebrate job growth, plummeting inflation, or Biden’s pledge to buy American goods and products. They didn’t stand up to support literacy or increased access to preschool.

They didn’t stand in support of removing lead pipes for clean drinking water, ending cancer or protecting our troops.

They refused to stand for IVF, even though most claim they now support it. They refused to stand up against fentanyl traffickers. Those should all be no-brainers.

Unbelievably, Republicans didn’t even stand in defense of democracy — either here at home, or around the world — and they refused to stand up for NATO, the alliance that has kept the world safe for 75 years.

Biden admonished, “You can’t love your country only when you win.” And Republicans made clear Thursday that they certainly don’t seem to love much of America at all, as long as a Democrat is in office.
